Digital health tools promote proactive tracking and management of health.
January 31, 2025
By: Sam Brusco
The digital health sector fosters a variety of technologies and applications engineered to strengthen delivery of healthcare, improve patient outcomes, and streamline medical processes. A key advantage of digital health is that it empowers people to grab the reins of their health and well-being. Ranging from wearable devices that monitor vital signs to mobile apps that generate real-time health insights, digital health tools promote proactive tracking and management of health.
The popular CES event showcases some of the latest digital health tools and next-gen healthcare solutions. From diagnostic tools to personalized treatments, artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies are fueling precision medicine and working to improve clinical decision-making.
Following are a smattering of AI, IoT (Internet of Things), telehealth, and digital health solutions that premiered at CES 2025. We hope these examples offer a glimpse into the future of high-tech healthcare.
Dose.com offered the world’s first look at its smart patch system. Made to resemble a band-aid, the Dose Patch is an agile drug delivery system that transforms the way in which medications are delivered, combining convenience with precision patient monitoring.
Each Dose Patch automates medication schedules, releasing precisely timed doses directly through the skin and into the bloodstream. Acting as a “smart band-aid,” it supports various treatment regimens while providing healthcare professionals with real-time data on patient adherence/compliance and progress. By simplifying medication management, Dose aims to make treatment easier for patients and more effective for clinicians.
The smart band-aid’s micro-engineered system ensures that medications are delivered precisely and consistently, automating dosing schedules in order to maintain optimal therapeutic levels. Integrated with a companion app, the patch offers real-time insights into patient adherence, which the company believes will empower healthcare providers to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans without the need for frequent in-person visits.
The VIV Ring is billed as the world’s first smart ring equipped with a tool called Generative Sleep Aid Sound. The VIV Ring measures and analyzes biometric signals—heart rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate variability, and stress levels—creating a hyper-personalized health monitoring device integrated with generative sleep aid sound technology.
This technology analyzes the biometric data, sleep patterns, and sleep cycles collected by the smart ring, constructing AI algorithm-driven personalized sleep audio that significantly improves sleep quality.
The device also seamlessly integrates with Apple Health. The iOS app is available now, and an Android app is scheduled for release in February. The basic version of the generative sleep aid sound has been completed, and a customized version will launch in the first quarter of this year.
Breaking from the industry norm of synthetic sound creation through digital signal processing, the VIV Ring prioritizes actual natural sounds. It includes recordings of ocean waves, deep-sea acoustics, rainfall in tranquil forests, and birdsong combined with monaural and binaural sounds to enhance sleep quality. VIV Health’s proprietary patents underpin this technology.
The VIV Ring is expected to start selling on the market in February, with current processes in progress for both FCC and CE certifications.
Lumia Health has developed, the company boasts, the world’s first wearable that tracks blood flow to the head. The Lumia wearable is designed to help people better understand and self-manage chronic symptoms of dizziness, brain fog, fatigue, and fainting made worse by standing.
Published at the 2024 American Autonomic Society Conference, the Lumia technology was clinically shown to correlate strongly with the gold standard—transcranial Doppler ultrasound—with a Pearson correlation of 0.91 for Carotid Flow Time, a measure of blood flow to the head.
Lumia Beta testers have reported exceptional engagement with more than 12 hours of daily wear time and over 40 minutes of daily mobile app use. The biofeedback helps Lumia members understand the ways that lifestyle factors such as posture, hydration, compression garments, and other daily activities affect blood flow to their head.
The Lumia wearable weighs less than a gram and is over five times smaller than Apple Airpods. It tracks blood flow by tapping into a shallow artery in the ear, a branch of the external carotid artery, which runs parallel to the brain’s primary blood supply. This strong arterial signal is crucial to enabling the wearable’s cardiac data. Unlike wrist wearables, which suffer from data corruption due to arm movement, the Lumia wearable allows users to track blood flow through various daily living activities.
